Letter From the President

Dear Valued Friends of Premier –

We’re excited to announce that after a year of discussions, Premier Pet Products has accepted the offer to become a subsidiary of Radio Systems Corporation, effective March 1, 2010.

What does this mean for you? From a daily operational perspective, there is no change. Premier will operate as an independent division, and our interactions with you will continue as they always have. But in the long term view, this partnership will provide some exciting new opportunities for our customers and the pet owners and animals we all serve.

I realize that some of you may be surprised at this. Please be assured that I did not make the decision to team with RSC quickly or lightly. As many of you know, I do not support some of the products they currently offer. But over the course of the past year I have sought the counsel of a number of trusted advisors and mentors, including Dr. RK Anderson and Dr. Ian Dunbar. I’ve also spent much time getting to know the folks at RSC. After weighing all the pros and cons, the senior management team and I at Premier are confident that by joining forces with RSC we can utilize the strengths of each organization to create a better future for pets.

Premier has a long and deep history with the training and behavior community, and has benefited tremendously from that wealth of scientific and practical animal behavior knowledge. RSC has an incredible strength in electronics and new product development. This alliance will allow significant advances in bringing high-tech, positive-reward based products to market.

Why is RSC doing this? They have made the decision to expand into positive training products. Premier brings deeper understanding of training and behavior principles, as well as relationships with many key experts, to help guide the product and protocol development process.

Why is Premier doing this? For years we’ve had specific ideas for many positive-reward electronic products, as well as expansion of the spray product category, but have lacked the technical expertise to bring these to market. By tapping into RSC’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities, we can make these products a reality. We’ll be able to offer dog owners positive alternatives to existing options.

What stays the same? Premier will operate as a separate division and will retain its separate identity. Customers will continue to order directly and receive products from us as they always have. All decisions regarding product development and brand use will be under my direction. Premier will not sell, promote or endorse shock products. Our support and financial sponsorship of behavior education programs and professional organizations will continue. As always, I will continue to speak openly, honestly and directly about what I believe is or is not in the best interest of animals.

What will change? In the coming years we can expect to see new and exciting positive training electronic products that have never before been available – products that we believe will offer compelling alternatives to currently available aversives.

In addition… I believe we are opening an important new dialog in order to facilitate greater understanding. Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of introducing over a dozen key experts to the folks at RSC in face-to-face meetings. These experts have come from the ranks of positive training, veterinary behavior, veterinary technicians, and applied animal behavior. All have been impressed with RSC’s openness and willingness to listen and learn. It is my hope that as a result of these new relationships we will see an ongoing evolution towards better products and improved protocols.

I want to express my thanks and appreciation to all of you for your support and loyalty over the past 20 years. I have a tremendous sense of anticipation as we embark on this next stage in our journey. I believe that as we all work together, we can make significant advances in bringing positive and effective solutions to more and more pet owners.

Wishing all the best to you and yours,

Sharon Madere
Founder & President
